Air Race World Championship Makes Key Board Appointments

Air Race World Championship has announced two further members of its Board, as the new global race series gears up for its Season 1 debut in 2022.

Willie Cruickshank has been confirmed as Air Race Series Director with full operational responsibility for the successful delivery of the Series.

The former Head of Aviation and Sport for the Red Bull Air Race World Championship, Willie was a RAF fighter pilot for 26 years before retiring as Group Captain. He went on to spend nine years as a display pilot with the UK based Wildcat Aerobatics team before joining the Red Bull Air Race where he was responsible for all aspects of flying operations including flight safety, race course design, pilot training and briefing.

Willie will draw on the wealth of experience his team has gained from its involvement in over 90 races in 34 different cities as the Air Race World Championship brings back the fastest motorsport series on the planet to fans around the world. He will also lead the WCAR’s commitment to creating a showcase for the future of aviation, urban air mobility and sustainably powered, clean technology.

Air Race has also confirmed that Kirsty Murphy will join its Advisory Board.

As well as being a world champion formation aerobatic pilot and a member of the Blades Aerobatic Team, Kirsty is a UK Aviation Ambassador who is passionate about raising the aspirations of young people. She will advise WCAR as it develops is own legacy programme designed to educate, inspire and encourage the next generation of aviation professionals.

As a former RAF fighter pilot and the only female pilot to serve with the world famous Red Arrows, she is uniquely placed to lead Air Race’s efforts to promote equality and greater diversity in all aspects of the series and aviation in general.

Kirsty joins air racing legends Nigel Lamb, Paul Bonhomme, Jimbo Reed and Steve Jones as the expert panel advising on the new series which is set to debut in the first quarter of 2022.
